Understanding weight loss and weight gain

With any weight loss program there needs to be two goals:  

1) To lose weight in a healthy manner

2) To keep the weight off while staying healthy  

For any weight loss to occur one must burn off more calories than one consumes.  This is called a hypo-caloric diet.  On any hypo-caloric diet one will lose weight, but where that weight loss comes from and how healthy it is are the key factors.  The body has three sources of energy, Sugar, Protein and Fat.  On a typical western diet loaded with excessive carbohydrates the body is used to running mostly on sugar.  On the Ideal Protein weight loss diet we want to eliminate most carbs and processed foods from the diet.  This depletes the diet’s supply of sugar for energy.  We then keep our protein intake at normal levels.  Ideal Protein is not a high protein diet; we simply keep the protein intake at normal levels to keep the body from breaking down lean muscle mass for energy.  This forces the body to use stored fat for energy.

How Ideal Protein is different than other diets

Anyone will lose weight on a hypo-caloric diet but on most weight loss programs the weight loss will come from a combination of fat, lean mass and water.  By keeping the protein intake at normal levels with high biological value foods that are very easily absorbed by the body, while on the Ideal Protein diet one will lose stored fat while preserving lean muscle mass.

What is the process?

  • The process begins with a review of your health profile.  During your initial visit a trained weight loss coach and doctor will do a complete review of your medical history and address any necessary health problems.
  • A certified weight loss coach will do a complete review of the Ideal Protein weight loss program and answer any questions you may have.  
  • Initial measurements:  The weight loss coach will take measurements of your arms, thighs, chest, waist and hips. An initial weigh-in and body mass composition will be charted.  The Body composition shows % of fat, % of lean mass and hydration levels.  From these initial measurements the weight loss coach will work with you to determine the proper weight loss goal and the time frame it will likely take to reach it.
  • You’ll get your initial week’s food and supplements and schedule your weekly meeting with your coach.  Your coach will check in on you during your first week to ensure you’re doing well and to answer any additional questions you may have.
  • You will get access to Ideal Protein TV, which gives you daily weight loss educational videos including videos on healthy cooking.
  • Each week you will have a 15 to 20 minute meeting with your weight loss coach which includes your weekly weigh-in and measurements, getting your next week’s worth of food and answering any questions with any additional support needed.
